Top 5 Best Discussions

Let’s be frank, the LinkedIn®’s Group Discussion platform is awful for any large Group generating hundreds of Discussions a day! It is cluttered and impractical. Discussions cannot be monitored before they are published. By the time our Moderators delete unauthorized Discussions (click here for Discussion Rules), a dozen new Discussions have buried successful Discussions. To survive in this jungle, Discussions need more traffic: By promoting the Best Discussions in this ezine, we give them an opportunity to stay visible for much longer.

Linked:HR’s Best Discussions are selected by the Linked:HR team from among the ten HR-related Discussions which generate the highest traffic during their first week of posting.

Important Group News

Featured Topic: Quality vs. Quantity

We learned this month from Richard Chaplin, SuperGroup Founder, that Linked:HR is projected to become the largest group on LinkedIn this coming June. This shows the major impact of Human Resources on social networking. It is wonderful. However, this must not distract us from our goal of improving Linked:HR. We can do this by inviting more HR top executives (already 33.7% of Linked:HR members), and removing/blocking all those who are not in HR and use our Group just to post junk messages.

  • As of April 1, Linked:HR Moderators are doing their best to make sure our Group Discussions are SPAM-free (see our Discussion Rules).
  • We have opened several threads to clean up our Discussions: the Open Networker Thread, the Product & Service Thread, and the Current Event Thread.
  • We are also inviting Recruiters & Job Seekers to post job openings and job requests on the Jobs tab, not on Discussions. We invite Members to use the “Move to Jobs” button underneath individual Discussion titles whenever they notice a misplaced Job posting or seeker.

Must Join Groups

Every month we featured Groups that we believe will be useful to our Members.

American Job Seekers, Join Linked:JobSeekers USA
US Job Seeker, this Group is linked to Linked:HR, the largest network of Recruiters. By joining this group, you indicate to 100,000s of Recruiters you are available for a new career opportunity. More
HR Top Executives, Join Elite:HR
Linked:HR and TalentBar are delighted to announce the launch of their joint venture Elite:HR, an exclusive Group for Senior HR executives with influence at the board level. Leaders of business schools specializing in HR are also welcome. The formation of this new Group is the result of extensive member research from both Linked:HR and TalentBar. Individuals recommended by existing Group Members will be given special consideration for membership. More
Power Networkers, Join Linked:Strategies

  • Nathan Kievman, Author of Linked Secrets, Co-Owner of Linked Strategies on LinkedIn, and Host of the acclaimed “Inside the Mind of a Master” Podcast Series. More

HR Star of the Month

Each month, Linked:HR Founder Olivier Taupin features an HR Executive who has been particularly helpful to our Linked:HR Community. Please help Olivier to select our next “HR Star of the Month” by suggesting an HR Executive who you feel is helping our Linked:HR Community: Suggest HR Star of the Month

This Month Olivier is featuring:   Bhanu Chandran
Ms. Chandran is Vice President, Head of Learning & Development, Human Capital Management Division, of Goldman Sachs in India.

“We have selected Ms. Chandran as our “HR Star of the Month” because of her question “What kind of non-cash rewards can HR promote during such a market downturn?”, which generated 34 Comments from our Members (as of April 1st, 2009). No Discussion from an HR Executive has ever generated more Comments! Because we want to encourage our Corporate HR Members to actively participate in our Discussions, we thought Ms. Chandran was a great example to follow. We are grateful for her help: She truly deserves to be our HR Star of the Month!”

 White Papers

Each month we will feature HR-related documents. Because we also believe in personal development, we will also feature an Employee Assistance Program video or white paper.

White Paper:Termination Manual” by Indaba

Whether you are being laid off or in charge of layoffs, this is a very helpful document to have. In this downturn economy, we have to address this problem, even if it is not very uplifting. If termination meetings do not go smoothly, your organization may face the risk of unnecessary costs through legal fees and time lost trying to defend your position. Termination meetings and the procedures associated with these must be handled with proper etiquette and strategy for the well being of your company and its employees. This white paper is an extensive guide which gives management guidelines and suggestions about the proper procedure on how to terminate employment. More

Employee Assistance Program White Paper:
Because we believe it is important for employers to provide to their employees work/life balance solutions, each month we feature a Family Education and Child Development tool provided by an Employee Assistance Program provider. These can be used by HR Professionals for their company’s Employee Assistance Program.

This month we are featuring: “Do You Know About Eating Disorders and How They Affect Your Child?
by KidsDadsMoms.com. More
